The Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area invites families to join the excitement of Junior Ranger Day on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Panola Mountain State Park Nature Center.

Junior Ranger Day will bring together civic organizations in DeKalb, Rockdale, and Henry counties to launch the nationally recognized Junior Ranger program and to celebrate the 10-year anniversary for the federal designation of this picturesque 40,000-acre region in metropolitan Atlanta.

As the rest of the family enjoys this state park, kids ages 8 to 12 will participate in activities involving themes related to the National Heritage Area such as farming, stain glass designs and wildlife animals. Once they complete these activities, the youngsters will earn a keepsake journal, a Junior Ranger certificate, and an Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area Junior Ranger Badge.

Registration for the event begins at 9:30 am with activities starting at 10:00 am.

Melody Harclerode, director of programs for the non-profit Arabia Mountain Heritage Area Alliance, describes Junior Ranger Day as “an amazing event for kids, particularly in DeKalb, Rockdale, and Henry counties, to take pleasure and inspiration with the local historical, cultural, and natural treasures in the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area.”

The cost of Junior Ranger Day is $5 per participating child ages 8 to 12. Parking for this event is $5 per vehicle. To register for Junior Ranger Day, visit: http://juniorrangerday.brownpapertickets.com/
